What Are the Hamstring Muscles?

A well-toned thigh not only helps prevent injury to the knees it helps you feel and look better in clothing that shows off your legs, such as shorts, leggings, and swimsuits. Located in the back of the leg, the hamstring muscles help the knee to bend and the hip to rotate so we can perform daily activities such as walking, running, and kneeling. The hamstrings are actually a group of three muscles that cross the hip and the knee. We’ve developed an effective at-home nude workout that focuses on these muscles:

  • Semimembranosus - This muscle goes from the base of your pelvis to the back of the tibia and is responsible for helping the knee to curve and the hip to turn.
  • Semitendinosus - This muscle is between the larger semimembranosus and the lower biceps femoris and assists in the range of motion of the knee and hips.
  • Biceps Femoris - This muscle makes it possible for the thigh to extend, the knee to bend, and move away from the body.

Why Are Hamstring Exercises Important?

The hamstring muscles play an important role in the movement in both the hips and the knees. Strong hamstrings equal beautifully shaped legs, but most of all give you the agility and range of movements you take for granted during the day, such as sitting, strolling, squatting, and jogging.
